I don't know if other kids are like this, because I don't live with them, but my two girls are completely obsessed with every cut, bruise, birthmark and blemish on their bodies. I think they are fairly anxious about health- related things and have developed a firm belief that anything ranging from a hangnail to an amputation surely would get better if one only applies a band aid, preferably one that is three times larger than the wound requires.
So, last night, Jenna is on the couch, engaging in her ritualistic examination of her feet and shoves her heel into my line of vision.
"See this, Mom?"
"What am I looking at, exactly?" I ask her.
"Well, the skin on the bottom of my feet is kind of... spiky."
"That's okay, Jen... it's just some dry skin."
(Big pause.)
"AM I MOLTING???" she yells.
